The inspiration behind the design is actually not that well known, despite the Havelock being one of our most sought after watches.
Bioluminescence is a breathtaking natural phenomenon that takes place in waters present with microscopic phytoplankton that emit a blue light. On a calm and moonless night, the vivid blue light from these plankton glow bright creating a stunning visual that is second to none. Havelock Islands mangrove covered shorelines provide this incredible natural beauty, and is one of the most surreal phenomenon to experience.
This strong bioluminescence which is such a rare and beautiful characteristic was the key inspiration behind the dial of the Havelock. The lume ring forms around the indices of the watch almost hugging the edge/shore of the watch, so to say, and glows incredibly bright with its BGW9 Lume and the indices provide a negative effect for legibility for timekeeping purposes. Subtle in the daytime but it’s beauty is witnessed in the dark.
The watch was always envisioned to be a diver, as Havelock is synonymous with diving, and one of India’s foremost dive institutes Dive India being there. The balance was found with keeping all features minimalist, clean yet still rugged and task oriented. A rubber strap provides the comfort and sporty look needed to compliment the watch, but an oyster style bracelet is there as well for those who prefer that.
